The Virgin of Guadalupe is revered in Hispanic New Mexico and the greater Southwest. When living in California, she once came to me in a dream to warn me about a boyfriend—if only I’d listened! I met Pete Tafoya, a furniture maker, while purchasing objects for an educational activity at the Smithsonian. He made us a traditional chair—one vara high x one vara wide. He sent this to me as a gift in honor of the opening of our quincentenary exhibit and hands-on education space.
