This ritual wedding basket of thirteen coins, used as a pledge of financial support has its roots in Spain. During the wedding ceremony the arras ritual occurs after the blessing and exchange of rings. The arras is linked to the dowry of past ages. The Padrinos (godparents) of the arras are sometimes noted on the wedding invitations that list the Padrinos of other features of the weddings, e.g. the cake, the rings.
