Painted pewter Schäfflertanz, (shepherds) who parade through the streets carrying hoops and rings wrapped in green and decorated with ribbons and lights. In Munich this has traditionally taken place every seven years on Three Kings’ Day, January 6, but today it is an annual event and takes place regularly on Rose (Fasching) Monday. The participants are the lead “dancer,” followed by twenty others all dressed in a box-tree cloak with a red jacket, black knickerbocker trousers, black buckled shoes, wear a green head covering and a yellow leather fleece. The lead dancer carries a decorated hoop with a full wine glass attached, which he must swing continually without spilling the wine.
