Imagination Chickens-By Marvin Finn Louisville, KY 1983/1984

I worked as a folklorist in residence in Louisville, Kentucky for a year. During this time I got to know Marvin Finn, an older African American folk artist. He worked with plywood and paints to create what he called his “Imagination Animals.” Originally I had one of his long-necked chickens, but when I was leaving I realized he’d get broken packed into my small Toyota Corolla car, so I traded him back to Marvin for a second smaller chicken. He was quite creative with God’s creatures!
