An outstanding carver who I featured in The Carver’s Art was Earnest Bennett from Indianapolis, Indiana. He creatively elaborated on the forms and techniques of making a chain with snakes, hooks, pivots, and joints. In this example of his work, he has a snake winding around a “reverse ball in cage” with a hook at the end. I was happy that he received recognition for his work by being selected for a National Heritage award for his folk art from the National Endowment of the Arts.
