My dad was the Chief Bosun’s Mate aboard a US Coast Guard cutter in the Aleutian Islands during WWII. This was his whistle that he used to pipe sailors aboard ship and issue orders when at sea. During my childhood it hung on the wall in our kitchen. My mom used it to call us home for meals because its shrill pitch could be heard from great distances. My sister and I often thought it was very annoying. I consider this to be my greatest find, and I was so happy to be able to return it to my dad after the fire.
