MOURNING BROOCH

Throughout the 19th century, and earlier centuries, it was the custom to save locks of hair from a deceased loved one and put it under glass in jewelry , such as rings, pendants and brooches. This 1860s brooch is 1 1/2 x 2 inches and reads IN MEMORY. The blond hair is beautifully plaited under the glass center. There is a small ring on the back so you could also wear it as a pendant.
